QuestionAnswer
What is Anatomy? The study of the structure and relationships of body parts
What are the three main body planes? Sagital (left/right), Frontal (anterior/posterior), and Tranverse (superior/inferior).
PH Scale Measures acidity or alkalinity
What is the importance of water in the body? It's solvent, temperature regulator, lubricant, and participant in chemical reactions.
Plasma membrane The selectively permeable boundary that controls movement of substances into and out of the cell.
What are ribosomes? Sites of protein synthesis
What is the cell theory? All living things are made of cells, cells are the basic unit of life, and all cells come from preexisting cells.
What are the four main types of tissues? Epithelial. connective, muscle, and nervous.
Muscle tissue Specialized for contraction to produce movement
What is the nervous tissue made of? Neurons and neuroglia (support cells)
Skeletal system Supports the body, protects the organs, produces blood cells
Skeletal muscle A type of muscle tissue that is under voluntary control, responsible for moving bones and facilitating body movements.
