Surgical procedures
Amputation The surgical removal of a limb
Appendectomy The surgical removal of appendix (a small, finger shaped organ)
Coronary artery bypass a surgical procedure to restore blood flow to the heart muscle by creating new pathways for blood around narrowed or blocked coronary arteries, often due to coronary artery disease (CAD)
free skin graft a piece of skin transplanted from one area of the body (the donor site) to another (the recipient site) to cover a wound, (doesn't include blood supply)
tonsillectomy The surgical removal on tonsils
Disease pathology the branch of medicine focused on studying diseases to understand their causes (etiologies), how they progress (pathogenesis), and their effects on the body's structures and functions
Aneurysm a balloon-like bulge in a weakened artery wall, occurring most often in the aorta or brain
Arthritis a broad term for over 100 conditions causing joint pain, swelling, and stiffness
Bronchitis a respiratory condition involving inflammation of the bronchial tubes, or airways in the lungs, leading to coughing, mucus production, wheezing, and shortness of breath
Rhinovirus Virus that causes the common cold
Skin Cancer the most common cancer, with the most frequent types being basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas, though melanoma is the most dangerous
General condition
Abrasion a wound caused by scraping or rubbing skin against a rough surface
Contusion a region of injured tissue or skin in which blood capillaries have been ruptured; a bruise.
Edema swelling caused by fluid trapped in your body's tissues, often in the feet, ankles, and legs
Fracture a bone that is split or broken, a common injury with symptoms including pain, swelling, bruising, and difficulty moving
Hypertension a condition where blood exerts persistently high force against artery walls
Thrombosis the formation of a blood clot within a blood vessel, blocking normal blood flow and potentially causing serious complications like a heart attack or stroke
Sepsis a life-threatening medical emergency caused by the body's overwhelming and inappropriate immune response to an infection
Diagnostic procedures
Biopsy a medical procedure to remove a tissue or cell sample from the body for microscopic examination to diagnose diseases, including cancer, inflammation, and other conditions
Computed Tomography (CT scan) uses X-rays and computer technology to create detailed, cross-sectional images of the body, which can be combined into 3D views to diagnose and monitor conditions like cancer, heart disease, blood clots, and bone fractures, as well as to guide procedures
Toxicology Screen a test that identifies and measures the amount of legal and illegal drugs in a person's bodily fluids, such as blood or urine
Chemothearpy cancer treatment that uses powerful drugs to destroy or slow the growth of rapidly dividing cancer cells
Dialysis life-saving medical treatment that filters waste products and excess fluid from the blood when a person's kidneys have failed
Pharmacotherapy the treatment of disease with medication
Transplant an operation in which an organ or tissue is transplanted.
Therapeutic relating to the healing of disease.
Pericarditis the inflammation of the pericardium, the sac surrounding the heart, causing symptoms like sharp chest pain that may worsen with breathing or lying down, and often accompanied by fever and fatigue
Ulcerative colitis an autoimmune disease characterized by chronic inflammation and sores in the lining of the large intestine (colon and rectum), causing symptoms like bloody diarrhea, rectal bleeding, and abdominal pain
Osteoporosis progressive bone disease causing bones to become weak and brittle, increasing the risk of fractures
Vitiligo a chronic skin disorder where a loss of melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color, results in white patches that can appear anywhere on the body, including hair, inside the mouth, and genitals
Lymphoma a blood cancer of the lymphatic system
Tendonitis a painful inflammation or irritation of a tendon, the strong tissues connecting muscle to bone, most commonly caused by overuse and repetitive motion
Epilepsy a brain disorder causing recurring seizures due to disrupted electrical signals in the brain
Testicular cancer a cancer that forms in one or both testicles, most commonly in young men, characterized by a painless lump or swelling in a testicle, a dull ache in the groin or scrotum, or an accumulation of fluid
Asthma a chronic lung disease that causes recurring wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing by making airways inflamed, swollen, and hyperreactive to triggers
nephrolith a kidney stone, a hard deposit of minerals and salts that forms in the kidneys
