| retrieval cue | associating a target bit of information with other bits of information, to be able to recall the target info. With the right retrieval cue, one can often access stored information that seemed to be completely inaccessible |
| retrospective memory | retrieving memories from the past |
| prospective memory | remembering intended future actions |
| priming | the activation, often unconsciously, of particular associations in memory. |
| context dependent memory | the environment you are in helps recall specific memories |
| encoding specificity system | cues and context specific to a memory will help us recall it |
| state dependent memory | what we learn in one state may be recalled when in that state again |
| mood congruent memory | mood affecting memories or perception of experiences |
| serial position effect | the tendency to recall the first and last items in a list |
| priming effect | only remembering first times on a list |
| recency effect | only remembering last items on a list |
