| Term | Definition |

| Parallel Muscles | long strap-like muscle with parallel fascicles that are perhaps most typical. Ex: Rectus abdominis muscle, Sartorius muscle |
| Convergent Muscles | fascicles that radiate out from a small to wider point of attachment, much like the blades in a fan. Ex: Pectoralis major muscle |
| Pennate Muscles | are said to be featherlike in appearance. |
| Unipennate Muscles | Fascicles that anchor to only one side if the connective tissue shaft. Ex: Soleus |
| Bipennate Muscles | have a type of double-feathered attachment of fascicles. Ex: Rectus femoris |
| Multipennate Muscles | The numerous interconnecting quill-like fascicles coverage on a common point of attachment |
| Fusiform Muscles | May be close to parallel in the center of the muscle but converge to a tendon at one or both ends. |
| Spiral Muscles | have fibers that twist between their points of attachment. Ex: latissimus dorsi |
| Circular Muscles | circle body tubes or openings |
| Antagonist | muscles that when contracting, directly oppose prime movers |
