QuestionAnswer
What is homeostasis and why is it important? Homeostasis is the body's ability to maintain a stable internal environment, despite external changes. It keeps factors like temperature, pH, and blood sugar balanced so the body cells can function properly.
What are anatomical position and directional terms used for? The anatomical position is standing upright, facing forward, arms at side, palms forward. Directional terms such as: superior, inferior, anterior and posterior helps explain the location of one body part in relation to another.
What are atoms? Atoms are the smallest units of matter that still have the properties of an element. They are made of protons, neutrons, and electrons.
What does the periodic table show? The pure periodic table organizes elements by their atom numbers and properties, showing how they react and bond with other elements.
What is the basic unit of life? The cell is the basic, structural and functional unit of life.
What are the main parts of a cell? The main parts are the cell membrane (controls what enters and leaves), Cytoplasm ( jell like fluid), and nucleus that (contains DNA and controls the cell).
What are the three main layers of the skin? The epidermis (outer layer), the dermis (middle layer), and the hypodermis (fat layer under the skin).
What are the two main functions of the skin? The skin protects the body from infection and injury and helps regulate body temperature.
What are two functions of the skeletal system? The skeleton supports the body and protects internal organs.
What's the difference between compact bone and spongy bone? Compact bone is dense and strong, while spongy bone is lighter and has spaces that hold bone marrow.
