QuestionAnswer
Bracket grounding A method of personal protective grounding, in which a low resistance short circuited connection from a line to ground is provided on one or both sides of the worksite
Butt Ground is a ground connection consisting of a temporary ground rod and grounding cable that is attached to the base of the tower
Cluster Bar A cluster bar is a terminal point for the grounding jumpers used for equipotential zone grounding.
Disconnect Grounding clamp A specially designed clamp that attaches to a disconnect cutout switches and provides a stud for the attachment of personal protective grounds
Equipotential zone grounding short-circuited connection from line to ground is provided and connected to a cluster bracket attached to the pole. which provides a shunt that diverts the flow of current around the line worker.
Fault Current the amount of current that a given system can deliver. Grounds must be rated for the available fault current.
Foreign Grounds Grounded conductors that are within the equipotential zone. Grounded down guys and phone messenger are commonly encountered foreign grounds. Foreign Grounds must be bonded to the equipotential grounding scheme.
Ground Cable OSHA requires that ground cables never be smaller than 2/0 AWG
Grounding spike clamp Used to prove that an underground cable is deenergized at the work location
Grounding Elbow Elbows are used for grounding applications in underground systems and provide a temporary ground. The grounding elbow is usually used in conjunction with a feedthrough bushing
Insulating Protective Cap Used to cover vacated bushings on transformers and other underground apparatus. Insulating protective caps insulate, shield, and seal the vacated bushings
Portable Feedthru Used for isolating, testing, and grounding underground circuits
Running Grounds Used to effectively ground conductors that are being installed. Typically installed at one end of the pull section
Step potential Refers to the voltage drop between a workers feet when the ground is energized by fault current.
Stringing Block Ground Installed at various locations along the pull section
Test Probe Devices that are inserted into underground bushings to a contact point for a voltage detector
Touch Potential Touch Potential refers to a voltage drop between an energized metallic object that the employee is in contact with and the point on the earths surface where the employee is standing.
