TermDefinition
Cede (v). To formally give up rights. He cede as the president.
Enterprise (n). Business venture or company. His enterprise is big.
Capitalistic (adj). Characteristic of an economic system that is privately owned. The wonder of capitalism is that the money will then flow by itself.
Threatening (adj). Dangerous. The gang was very threatening.
Extinct (adj). No longer in existence. Dinosaurs are extinct.
Mutation (n). Change in form, nature, or qualities. Some fish have weird mutations.
Prevailing (adj). The idea or feeling that is the strongest. The lions felt prevailing.
Distinguish (v). To tell the difference between things, or to show what makes something or someone stand out. You can easily distinguish a T-rex.
Corroborate (v). To support an idea, statement, or characters point of view by giving more evidence or proof. There was no evidence to corroborate his story"
Condensing (v). Making something shorter or more compact by removing extra words or details, while keeping the main idea. There are many ways of condensing paragraphs.
Reveal (v). To show or illustrate. The magician had a big reveal.
Accurately (adv). To correctly identify something. He took the test accurately.
Consistent (adj). Done in the same way each time. He is very consistent at gift wrapping boxes.
Evident (adj). Clearly seen or obvious. The ending was evident.
Abduction (n). The act of taking someone away by force. Mr. Jasper's abduction was planned at 12:39pm.
Boldly (adv). In a confident and courageous way. He boldly took on the challenge.
Argument (n). An attempt to persuade someone on a topic open to debate.
Authors Perspective (noun phrase). How the author feels about the situation or topic.
Claim/Thesis (n). A statement of the authors point of view.
Counterclaim (n). An opposing claim that disagrees with the thesis.
Credible Source (adj). A reliable resource the writer can use to cite information.
Formal Style (n). Using a professional choice of words and tone/attitude.
Reasoning (n). The explanations of why the author feels the way he or she does.
Bias (n). General tendency or leaning in one direction: partial toward one view over another.
Refute (v). To disprove a statement or theory.
Relevant Evidence. (noun phrase). Facts, details, examples, etc. That support the writer's reasoning.
Sound/Logical (v). Complete or comprehensive. A way to describe an argument when it's based on logic/common sense.
Sufficient Evidence (n). When there's enough support to make the argument convincing.
Transitions (n). Words, phrases, or clauses that help the reader see how your ideas fit together to support your topic.
Fact (n). Information that can be proven, measured, or observed.
Opinion (n). One's beliefs, thoughts, feelings, or emotions about a topic: point-of-view (informational reading standards).
Rebuttal (n). Response to opponent's counter claim.
