vocabulary

TermDefinition
additive reasoning focuses on the use of addition and subtraction for comparisons.
multiplicative reasoning focuses on the use of multiplication and division.
ratio is a multiplicative comparison between two quantities that may contain the same or different units.
percent is a part-to-whole ratio where the whole is equal to 100.
common factor a number that is a factor of two or more numbers.
equivalent ratios ratios that represent the same part-to-part or part-to-whole relationship.
order of operations set of rules that ensures the same result every time an expression is evaluated.
proportion is an equation that states that two ratios are equal.
strip diagram illustrates number relationships by using rectangles to represent ratio parts.
