Amputation A surgical procedure in which a limb or part of a limb is removed due to injury, infection, disease, or poor blood circulation.
Appendectomy A surgical procedure to remove the appendix, usually performed when a person has appendicitis (inflammation of the appendix).
Coronary artery bypass A surgical procedure that improves blood flow to the heart by creating a new route (bypass) around a blocked or narrowed coronary artery, using a blood vessel taken from another part of the body.
Free skin graft A surgical procedure in which a piece of healthy skin is completely removed from one area of the body and transplanted to another area where skin has been lost due to injury, burns, or surgery.
Tonsillectomy A surgical procedure to remove the tonsils, which are two small glands located at the back of the throat, usually done to treat recurrent throat infections or breathing problems.
