| Angular Velocity | The average angular velocity (w). is measured by dividing the angular displacement (0) by the time of travel (t). The angular velocity is measured in radians per second: w = change in 0/change in t. |
| Period (t) | Time it takes to complete one cycle, how much time does it take the object to complete one term. |
| Frequency (f) | How many cycles are completed in one unit of time, how many terms are completed in one second. The unit is Hz. |
| Period vs. Frequency | The period of motion is inversely related to the frequency of rotation. T = 1/f |
| Uniform Circular Motion | An object traveling a circle at a constant speed exhibits uniform cellular motion. The object's s is not changing, direction of motion is and therefore the v is changing. Because of this, object has accel motion. This is called centripetal acceleration. |
| Tip about Velocity | Even if the speed is constant, velocity will not because because the direction is not constant. |
| Directions | The velocity vector at every point is directed tangent to the circle while the acceleration vector is directed towards the center of the circle. The direction of the acceleration vector is perpendicular to the direction of the velocity vector. |
| Centripetal Acceleration | ac = v^2 / r, this will often be represented as mv^2/r cause you're doing ma. |
| Alternative Ways to Write Ac Equation | Ac = 4pi^2r / T^2 = 4pi^2rf^2 = W^2r |
| Tip for Centripetal Force | Remember that centripetal force does not indicate some kind of new force. It merely means that the force is directed towards the circle's center. |
| What does it mean when a person feels weightless? | Means that the person will appear to have no weight on the scale, and since we use Fn to measure this, Fn = 0. |
| When you're trying to find the minimum speed required to keep water from spilling out of the bucket, Fn is... | 0 |
| How can you spin a glass of water attached to a tray around? | The centripetal force provided by the normal force of the tray is large enough to hold the glass of water in place and keep it moving in a circle. |
