Errors
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Precision | This is how close repeated measurements are to each other. |
| Accuracy | This is how close repeated measurements are to the true value. |
| Random Error | These are unpredictable variations in the value of repeated measurements that vary in both directions around the true value. These reduce precision. |
| Systematic Error | These errors cause all the measurements to shift in one direction from the true value. These reduce accuracy. |
| Error of parallax | This occurs when the observer does not read the instrument at eye level. |
| Zero Error | This occurs when the instrument is not set to zero and all the readings end up out a a result. |
| Percentage Error | (|True value - estimate value| / True Value) x 100 |
