| Sources of Light | Objects that emit or give out light. |
| Natural | Light sources that exist in nature. |
| Artificial | Light sources created by people. |
| Luminous | Objects that give out their own light. |
| Non-luminous | Objects that do not give out their own light. |
| Opaque | Objects that do not allow any light to pass through them. |
| Translucent | Objects that allow only some light to pass through them. |
| Transparent | Objects that allow light to pass through them completely. |
| Reflection | Light bounced back by the surface of an opaque object. |
| Refraction | The bending of light when it passes from one medium to another. |
| Dispersion | The splitting of visible or white light into its seven colours. |
| Prism | A device having a triangular shape and made of glass or quartz, used to separate white light into its seven colours. |
| Shadow | A black coloured patch formed when an opaque object comes in between the path of light and blocks it. |
