| Atoms | Tiny spheres of matter so small they are invisible. |
| Mitochondria | The powerhouses of cell that provide energy needed by the cell to carry on day-to-day functioning, growth, and repair. |
| Ionic Bonds | A chemical bond formed by the transfer of electrons from one atom to another is called an ionic, or electrovalent, bond. |
| Covalent Bonds | A chemical bond formed by the sharing of one or more pairs of electrons between the outer energy levels of two atoms. |
| Effector | Are organs, such as muscles or glands, that directly influence controlled physiological variables. |
| Hypothalamus | When cold weather causes the body temperature to decrease, feedback information is relayed through the nerves to the thermostat in a part of the brain. |
| Amino Acids | The elements that make up a protein molecule are bonded together to form chemical units. |
| Nucleotides | Nucleic acid molecules are polymers of thousands and thousands of smaller molecules. |
| Epidermis | Is an epithelial layer derived from the ectodermal germ layer of the embryo. |
| Stratum granulosum | Where the process of surface keratin formation begins. |
| Simple epithelium | An arrangement of epithelial cells in a single layer. |
| Compact bone tissue | The type of bone tissue that forms the hard shell of a bone. |
