TermDefinition
muscle fiber a single muscle cell, long and cylindrical, that contracts to produce movement.
tendon A tough band for connective tissue that connects muscle to bone.
Origin The point of attachment of a muscle to a bone that remains fixed during contraction.
Inseration The point of attachment of a muscle to a bone that moves during contraction.
Agonist The prime mover, responsible for a specific movement.
Antagonist The muscle that opposes the action of the agonist.
Synergist A muscle that assists that agonist in performing a movement.
Fascia A layer of connective tissue that surrounds muscle.
Myofibril The contractile threads found in muscle cells, made of actin and myosin.
Sarcomere The basic functional unit of a muscle fiber, responsible for contraction.
