QuestionAnswer
What’s the difference between an AD and a Service Bulletin? An Airworthiness Directive (AD) is mandatory by the FAA; a Service Bulletin (SB) is manufacturer recommended but not mandatory unless referenced in an AD.
What’s MEL and how is it used? MEL (Minimun Equipment List) outlines equipment that can be inoperative for a flight to be dispatched legally under specific conditions.
What steps would you take during an AOG event at an outstation? 1. Gather discrepancy info from the crew
 2. Reference MEL (Minimum Equipment List) / CDL (Configuration deviation list) for deferral possibility
3. Dispatch a mobile repair team or contact local vendor
4. Log and document all steps taken
5. Update flight
What is the function of the PT6A engine in the King Air 350i? It’s a turboprop engine known for its reverse flow design and modular construction, making field maintenance easier.
What are your responsibilities under Part 135 operations? Ensure airworthiness of aircraft, coordinate maintenance with minimal flight disruption, comply with MEL deferrals, document maintenance actions per FAA requirements.
What’s the difference between RII and RTS sign-off? RII (Required Inspection Item) is a second inspection for critical systems. RTS (Return to Service) is the final sign-off that the aircraft is airworthy after maintenance.
If you can’t find a discrepancy listed in the MEL, what do you do? Contact the DOM (Director of Maintenance) or Chief Inspector for guidance; the aircraft may be grounded if no deferral option exists.
What are common causes of an avionics-related grounding? Loss of communication radios, transponder failure, autopilot malfunction (if required), or loss of navigational systems required for that flight’s airspace.
