Epidermis the integument layer that has no vascularization, the integument layer composed of keratinized stratified squamous cells
Dermis the layer that corresponds to leather hides from an animal

Dermal papilla projections from the dermis that reduce blister formation
Hair shaft the portion of hair that projects from the skin surface
Epithelial root sheath layer of cells that are derived from the epidermis
Medulla the innermost portion of hair that is comprised of large epithelial cells and air space
melanocytes cells that produce melanin in the hair root
Papilla the portion of the hair root that contains a single capillary cluster
Cilia motile structural elements of the epithelial membrane, sensation and movement
Basement membrane acellular layer that acts as a selective filter and scaffold for regenerating epithelial cells
