| Bethanechol (Urecholine) | Muscarinic agonist stimulates muscarininc receptors increasing detrusor muscle contraction to initiate urination and promote bladder emptying. Treats pre and post partum urinary retention, and helps with neurogenic atony. Not for obstruction. |
| Contraindications to bethanechol | Asthma, peptic ulcers, GI/G obstruuction, bradycardia, hypotension. |
| Antidote for bethanechol | Atropine |
| Tamsulosin(Flomax) | Alpha 1 blocker, used forBPH, bladder obstruuction, improves urine flow and used off label for kidney stones. |
| Tamsulosin sx | dizziness, headache, drowsiness, ejaculation problems |
| Finasteride | Alpha reductase inhibitor, blocks testosterone conversion, reducing prostate size. May take 3-4 months for maximum effect. Can cause sexual dysfunction, gynecomastia. |
| Ciprofloxacin | 2nd gen fluroquinolone, used for UTI, respiratory infections, skin, bone, joint infections, anthrax exposure. Can cause tendon ruptures, tendinitis, c diff, qt prolongation, NVD. take with full glass of water. |
| Trimethoprim- sulfamethaxazole | Sulfonide antibiotic and folate antagonist. Prevents bacteria from making folate. |
