QuestionAnswer
Prokaryote A cell with NO nucleus or organelles
Eukaryote A cell with a nucleus AND organelles
Autotroph An organism that makes its own food; a producer
Heterotroph An organism that eats other organisms; a consumer
Unicellular An organism made of only ONE cell. Can be a Eukaryote or Prokaryote
Multicellular An organism made of 2 or MORE cells. This can only be a Eukaryote
Cell membrane The barrier (or bubble) around every cell (prokaryote and eukaryote) and the organelles in Eukaryotes
Cell wall The rigid layer on the outside of plant cells and bacteria cells that protects them
Cell theory All cells come from preexisting cells Cells are the most basic unit of life All living organisms are made from cells
Chloroplast An organelle in algae and plants that helps them conduct photosynthesis (how they make their own food)
Chlorophyll The substance that gives algae and plants (and some bacteria) their green color
Cell The most basic unit of life Comes from other LIVING cells
Microscope A device that allowed for the cell to be discovered
