Matter Anything that has mass and takes up space

Atoms Really small particles that can’t be divided or destroyed in chemical reactions or through phase changes.
Chemical Change Molecules that make up old substances can be broken apart and the atoms that make them up can be rearranged into new molecules to make new substances
Products The new substances that are produced from a chemical reaction
Reactants The original substances you start with before the chemical reaction occurs.
Solute The substance that dissolves
Soluble The amount of solute that can dissolve in a given amount of solvent at a given temperature.
Insoluble When the amount of solute can't dissolve
Property A characteristic of a substance that doesn’t change
Viscosity How well a liquid flows
Substance Made of one type of material throughout
Mixture A blend of two or more substances
Solution A type of homogeneous mixtures where a solid is thoroughly mixed in a liquid

Homogenous Mixture A mixture that is so evenly mixed that you cannot see the different parts.
Heterogenous Mixture a mixture where you can easily see the different parts
Pure Substance A single kind of matter that contains only one kind of atom or molecule.
Physical Properties Any property of matter that can be observed or measured without changing the identity of the matter
Chemical Properties Any property of matter that describes a substance based on its ability to change into a new substance
