Cell Organelles, functions, Cell Theory, unicellular/multicellular organisms

vacuole organelle that stores food, water, and waste
lysosomes help cells break down nutrients and old cell parts
cell membrane a thin, flexible covering that surrounds the cell allowing food, water, and gases to enter the cell and wastes to leave the cell (guard gate)
nucleus the brain of the cell, stores the DNA
mitochondria organelles that convert food into energy (powerhouse)
cytoplasm thick jelly-like substance that supports and protects cell organelles
cell wall rigid outer layer that supports and protects the cell
chloroplast uses energy from the sun to make food for the plant (where photosynthesis takes place)
