Basics for a Biblical Worldview

TermDefinition
assumption an idea that people believe without trying to prove or without knowing they have it
basic beliefs Things that people believe but probably never think about; things that always be proven
Creation the act of God to create the heavens and the earth in six literal days and in agreement with His perfect character and order
culture the result of people living out the Creation Mandate, building on traditions passed down and then creating new things
dualism the belief that there are two equal gods, one good and one evil
Fall the breaking of Gods law by Adam and Eve with the consequence of sin for them, all creation, and all descendants
Big story a worldview's story that seeks to explain where the world came from, why its here, what is wrong with it and where it's going
Redemption God's restoration of sinners to a right relationship with Him through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ
two-story view a dualistic view of life as two separate levels with two different authorities
worldview the way a person makes sense of the world through a big story for his basic beliefs and loves
church all the people Christ has rescued from the kingdom of darkness and brought into His kingdom
covenant an agreement between two or more people with certain requirements and promises
fallen direction the bending of something away from creational structure because of the Fall
image of God the quality that God created humans with, giving them worth above all other creatures
New Covenant the covenant that was promised in the Old Testament and established by Jesus in the New Testament
redemption direction the pushing of something that has been bent from the Fall back toward its creational structure
structure the way God's creation is supposed to work, in agreement with His purpose and plan
