acid and bases

TermDefinition
corrosive A corrosive substance causes damage by chemical action
litmus used to test materials for acidity. In an acidic medium, blue litmus paper turns red, and bases turn blue
ph scale The pH scale is a logarithmic scale used to measure the acidity or basicity of a solution, ranging from 0 to 1. A pH of 7 is considered neutral
universal indictor A universal indicator is a pH indicator made of a solution of several compounds that exhibit various smooth colour changes over a wide range pH values to indicate the acidity or alkalinity of solutions
neutral something that isn't acidic or basic
acid a substance with particular chemical properties including turning litmus red, neutralizing alkalis, and dissolving some metals
base base, in chemistry, any substance that in water solution is slippery to the touch, tastes bitter, changes the colour of indicators
