TermDefinition
corrosive A corrosive substance causes damage by chemical action
litmus A dye obtained from certain lichens that is red under acid conditions and blue under alkaline conditions.
pH Scale a figure expressing the acidity or alkalinity of a solution on a logarithmic scale on which 7 is neutral, lower values are more acid and higher values more alkaline. The pH is equal to −logc, where c is the hydrogen ion concentration in moles per litre.
Universal Indicator is a pH indicator made of a solution of several compounds that exhibit various smooth colour changes over a wide range pH values to indicate the acidity or alkalinity of solutions.
Neutral A substance with pH level of 7 , pure water
Acid A substance with pH level of < 7
Base A substance of pH level of > 7
