Acids and bases

TermDefinition
Acid Acids turn litmus from blue to red.
Bases Bases turn litmus from red to blue.
Indicator An indicator is a compound that shows by means of a colour change whether a substance acidic or basic.
Litmus Litmus is an example of a chemical that is an acid based indicator.
Neutral A solution whose pH is 7 is neutral.
pH scale The pH is used to tell us how acidic or basic a substance is.
Acidic A solution whose pH is less that 7 is acidic.
Basic A solution whose pH is more that 7 is basic
