Allergy Skin Test A skin test used to identify allergies.
Scratch Test (Skin Prick Test) A test where the forearm is scratched with tiny needles and exposed to allergens such as pollen, mold, dust mites, pet dander, or chemicals in food.
Intradermal Skin Test A test in which small amounts of allergens are injected into the skin to check for reactions.
Biopsy Removal of a small piece of living tissue for microscopic examination.
Excisional Biopsy Surgical removal of an entire lesion or tumor for examination.
Incisional Biopsy Removal of a small portion of tissue from a lesion for microscopic examination.
Exfoliative Cytology Scraping of living tissue for microscopic analysis, often to detect bacteria or fungi.
Needle Biopsy Use of a hollow needle to remove a core sample of tissue for microscopic examination.
Punch Biopsy Use of a small, circular blade to remove a cylindrical core of tissue from epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous layer.
Autograft Surgical transfer of tissue from one part of a patient’s body to another part of the same body.
Blepharoplasty Plastic surgery of the eyelid; also known as a lid lift.
Cauterization Destruction of tissue using heat, cold, or electrical current; often used to remove skin tags.
Chemical Peel Use of chemicals to remove outer layers of skin; commonly used for acne or wrinkle treatment.
Cryosurgery Destruction of abnormal tissue by freezing, typically with liquid nitrogen; used to treat warts.
Curettage Removal of tissue by scraping the surface; often used to remove basal cell tumors.
Debridement Removal of damaged tissue and debris to prevent infection and promote healing.
Dermabrasion Use of abrasive materials (like brushes or sandpaper) to remove layers of skin, often to improve appearance of scars or fine lines.
Dermatoplasty Replacement of damaged skin with donor skin from another region; a type of skin graft.
Incision and Drainage (I&D) Making an incision in the skin to drain fluid or an abscess.
Laser Therapy Use of laser light waves to treat skin conditions, including discolorations, birthmarks, tattoos, and lesions.
Lipectomy Surgical removal of fat beneath the skin.
Liposuction removal of fat using suction during surgery.
Mohs Surgery Surgical treatment for skin cancer where thin layers of tumor are removed and examined until no cancer remains.
Rhytidectomy Surgical removal of skin to eliminate wrinkles; commonly called a facelift.

Oral Drugs Medications taken by mouth (swallowed, chewed, or dissolved under the tongue) that affect the body systemically.
Transdermal Drugs Medications that travel through the skin into the bloodstream, often delivered via a medicated patch that slowly releases a specific dose.
Anesthetic Drug that causes a reversible loss of sensation or pain; used to temporarily deaden pain.
Antibiotic Drug used to fight off or prevent bacterial infections.
Antifungal Drug used to treat fungal infections, such as athlete’s foot and ringworm.
Antipruritic Drug used to reduce itching associated with skin disorders.
Antiviral Drug used to treat viral infections, such as herpes.
Biologic Drug derived from living organisms using molecular biology techniques; can modulate the immune system and disrupt autoimmune responses.
Corticosteroid Drug used to treat skin conditions linked to autoimmune or inflammatory diseases, such as eczema, psoriasis, or vasculitis.
Immunosuppressant Drug that suppresses the immune system to treat conditions like psoriasis and eczema.
