|---|---|
| expression | A mathematical phrase that contains operations, numbers, and/or variables. |
| exponent | A mathematical notation indicating the number of times a quantity is multiplied by itself. |
| base of an exponent | The number that is raised to a power. |
| least common multiple (LCM) | The smallest multiple (other than zero) that two or more numbers have in common. |
| dimensions | Measurements in width, length, and sometimes depth |
| area | The number of square units required to cover a surface. |
| surface area | 1. The sum of all the areas of all the faces or surfaces that enclose a solid. 2. The sum of all the areas of all surfaces of a solid. |
| equation | A mathematical sentence that contains an equals sign. |
| rhombus | A parallelogram with four congruent sides |
| square | A parallelogram with four congruent sides and four right angles. |
| rectangle | A parallelogram with four right angles |
| formula | A mathematical relationship or rule expressed in symbols. For example, A = b x h |
| evaluate | form an idea of the amount, number, or value of; assess. |
| triangle | a three-sided polygon |
| algebraic expression | A combination of variables and/or numbers, and at least one operation. |
| quotient | the answer to a division problem |
| variable | A symbol used to represent a quantity that can change |
| cube | A prism with six square faces |
| volume | Amount of space occupied by an object. V = B x h |

| net in geometry | A pattern that you can cut and fold to make a model of a solid shape. |
| base (geometry) | The surface a solid object stands on, or the bottom line of a shape such as a triangle or rectangle. But the top is also called a base when it is parallel to the bottom! |
| edge | The line segment where two faces of a solid figure meet. |
| height | The measurement associated with an object's top-to-bottom dimension. |
| parallelogram | A quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides |
| prism | A solid figure that has two congruent, parallel polygons as its bases. Its sides are parallelograms |
| pyramid | A solid shape with a polygon as a base and triangular faces that come to a point (vertex or apex) |
| perpendicular | Two lines that intersect to form right angles |
