Anterior toward the front of the body
Posterior toward the back of the body
Superior close to the head
Inferior away from the head
Medial closer to the body's midline
Lateral away from the body's midline
Proximal closer to the trunk
Distal away from the trunk
Coronal/ Frontal Plane longitudinal plane through the body (Frontal)
Sagittal Plane divides into right and left sections
Axial/Transverse Plane horizontal plane through the body
Dorsal Cavity largest anatomical spaces in humans
Ventral Cavity largest anatomical spaces in humans
Cranial Cavity contains the brain
Vertebral Cavity contains the spinal column
Thoracic Cavity contains lungs, heart blood vessels, thymus gland etc
Pelvic Cavity contains the bladder, large intestine, rectum and reproductive organs
Abdominal Cavity contains the stomach, gallbladder, liver, colon small intestine, kidneys and appendix
