What is the main function of the skeletal system? To provide support protection, movement, storage of minerals, and production of blood cells.
What is the difference between axial and appendicular skeletons? The axial skeleton includes the skull, spine, and ribs; the appendicular skeleton includes the limbs and gridles.
What is homeostasis and why is it important? Homeostasis is the body's ability to maintain stable internal conditions, like temperature and ph. It keeps the body balanced and functioning properly.
What are the four main types of body tissues? Epithelial, connective muscle, and nervous tissue.
what does the integumentary system include and what is its role? It includes the skin, hair and nails; it protects the body, regulates temperature, and prevents water loss.
What is spongy bone and where is it found? Spongy bone, also called cancellous bone, has a porous structure that holds red bone marrow and produces blood cells. It’s found in the ends of long bones and inside flat bones like the pelvis and sternum.
What is the function of ribosomes in a cell? Ribosomes are tiny organelles that make proteins needed for growth, repair, and other cell functions.
Electrolytes: Minerals in body fluids (like sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium) that carry an electric charge and help maintain nerve, muscle, and hydration balance.
What are the main functions of the circulatory system? The circulatory system transports oxygen, nutrients, and hormones throughout the body, removes waste, and helps regulate body temperature and fluid balance.
Sternum: A flat bone located in the center of the chest that connects to the ribs via cartilage and helps protect the heart and lungs.
