QuestionAnswer
Spatial visualization The mental representation and manipulation of two- and three-dimensional objects
Isometric sketch A form of pictorial sketch in which all dimensions parallel to the three principal spatial axes are shown in their true proportions
Scale The relationship between a distance or area on a map and the corresponding distance or area on the ground, commonly expressed as a fraction or ratio
Orthographic projection A method of representing three-dimensional objects on a plane having only length and breadth. It is also referred to as right-angle projection or orthographic view.
3D modeling The process of creating a solid model or three-dimensional object using a modeling and design application on a computer. It is also known as solid modeling.
Subtractive method A solid modeling design method in which an object is created by subtracting volume from a larger object
Additive method A solid modeling design method in which an object is created by adding volume to a smaller object
Design intent A strategy in which geometry is defined in such a way that changes produce desired, predictable results
Multiview drawing A drawing that contains views of an object projected onto two or more orthographic planes
Orthogonal Intersecting or lying at right angles; perpendicular
Construction line A lightly drawn line to guide drawing other lines and shapes
Object line A heavy solid line used on a drawing to represent the outline of the object
Hidden line A heavy dashed line that represents an edge that is not directly visible
Center line A line that defines the center of arcs, circles, or symmetrical parts. A centerline is half as thick as an object line.
Center mark A mark on a drawing that shows the location of a hole, cylinder, or other round feature as a pair of perpendicular lines that cross at the center of a feature
Annotation An object that provides information about a feature, such as the length of a wall, the diameter of a fastener, or a detail callout. Annotation objects can include dimensions, notes, or other types of explanatory symbols.
Standard 1. Something established by authority, custom, or general consent as a model or example; 2. Something set up and established by authority as a rule for the measure of quantity, weight, extent, value, or quality
Conceptual model A visual representation of an idea. A conceptual model can be a sketch, concept map, schematic, flowchart, or any other visual representation.
Graphical model A pictorial representation used to convey detailed information. In engineering, graphical models are created using standards of engineering graphics to document a design and are often referred to as technical drawings.
Mathematical model A representation of a real-world situation or system using mathematical concepts and language
Prototype A working model used to test a design concept by making observations and necessary adjustments
Computer-Aided Design (CAD) A process that uses a computer to assist in designing something, such as a part, electrical circuit, or building
Abstraction The process or result of taking away or removing characteristics from something to reduce it to a set of essential characteristics
Parametric modeling 3D modeling in which geometry is created in association with other geometry
User interface The means by which a person controls a software application or hardware device. Nearly all software programs have a graphical user interface (GUI), which includes graphical controls a user can select using a mouse or a keyboard.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
