Revenue ↓
What is revenue and how does it help the branches? All actions by the branches cost money. Money to run the government is collected through taxes. This is called Revenue.
How does the General Assembly have responsibility and control of revenue? They're responsible for determining where that money comes from and how it can be spent.
What department collects revenue and is part of what branch Department of revenue is part of the executive branch.
Individual Income Think of Individual Income as money from individuals/civilians, salaries and wages. (People's Income)
Corporate Income Think of Corporate Income as money from corporations/companies. (Income of companies/business)
Sales Tax Think of Sales Tax as money of items purchased. (Sales)
Property Tax Think of Property Tax as property.
Estate Tax Think of Estate Tax as inherited money, real estate, possessions and personal property. (Real Estate)
Insurance Tax Think of Insurance Tax as sold insurance by companies.
Excise Tax Gasoline, Alcohol, Tobacco.
Fees are NOT taxes (FLS) (Fees, Lottery, Settlement Programs)
What are fees? Money collected from licenses, permits, state park entrance fees
What is lottery money? Money collected from individuals purchasing lottery tickets.
What are Settlement Programs? Collected from money spent on tobacco products
Where does the state of Georgia get their revenue from? Income Tax
Where does the state of Georgia get their second best source of revenue from? Sales Tax
Where does the state of Georgia get their third best source of revenue from? Corporate Tax
Executive Branch ↓
Function of Executive Branch To enforce and carry out laws
Leadership of Executive Branch Governor and Lieutenant Governor are the state leaders of the executive branch. They are elected separately.
Qualification of Executive Branch To qualify for governor or lieutenant governor you must be 30 years of age, a U.S. citizen for at least 15 years and a Georgia resident for at least 6 years
Duties of Executive Branch
The governor is the Chief Executive and Commander-In-Chief of state patrol and national guard
What can the governor do? Make appointments to state agencies Writes proposed budgets
How do state agencies contribute to the governor Enforce laws and implements programs
Secretary Custodian of state flag Supervises and monitors elections
Attorney General Deals with contracts and legalities
Department of Labor Oversees the workforce
Department of Education Certifies teachers and distributes funds for school supplies
Department of Agriculture Certifies and regulates farmer's markets, gardens, convenience stores and more
Department of Insurance Certifies and regulates insurance companies
Board of Regents Manages public universities and colleges
Department of Revenue Enforces tax law
Department of Transportation Responsible for maintenance, planning, and construction of Georgia's major roads and highways
Board of Pardons and Paroles Oversees pardon and parole requests
Department of Juveniles Justice Enforces laws for juvenile offenders and creates rehabilitative programming
Department of Corrections Manages and operates prison facilities and developed rehabilitative programming
Georgia Bureau of Investigation Conducts criminal investigation
Department of Natural Resources Ensures laws related to Georgia's natural resources are followed
Department of Human Resources Provides assistance to families of the aging; supports mental health programs
Department of Public Safety Protects Georgia's citizens and their property; includes state patrol
Legislative Branch ↓

What are the two chambers General Assembly and Senate
How much members does the House of Representatives have? 180 Members, lower house
How much members does the Senate have? 56 Members, upper house, 1 per Senate district
Duties Passes state's budget, make laws
Qualifications for the House of Representations 21 years or older, have to be a U.S. citizen, Georgia resident for at least 2 years and county resident for at least 1 year
Qualifications for the Senate 25 years or older, have to be U.S. citizen, Georgia resident for at least 2 years and county resident for at least 1 year
First process of the Legislative Process An idea is introduced to one house/chamber and read
Second process of the Legislative Process The bill is assigned to a standing committee
Third process of the Legislative Process The bill is introduced to the other house/chamber for another reading and a vote
Fourth process of the Legislative Process Bill is discussed in committee, which can elaborate, change, or kill the bill
Fifth process of the Legislative Process (if) If successful (+50 percent has voted to proceed), the bill then goes to the other house/chamber and process repeated
Sixth process of the Legislative Process The bill then goes to the governor who will sign or veto the bill
Seventh process of the Legislative Process Becomes Law, Kills the Law, Or partially kills the law
Eighth process of the Legislative Process If vetoed, the Senate & House can override the veto with 2/3 vote in both houses
Doing nothing for 40 days will make it become law
