| Proclamation Act of 1763 | a law that banned the British from settling west of the Appalachian mountains. This law also forced settlers to leave the upper Ohio River Valley |
| Triangular Trade | a system where slaves traded goods among Americans, Britians, and Africa |
| Revivals | gatherings where people come together to hear sermons. They were emotional and were started in the late 1730s by ministers |
| Great Awakening | a religious movement that went through the colonies in the 1730s and 1740s. It changed colonial religion |
| Middle Passage | a dangerous journey where the slave trade brought millions of Africans crossed the Atlantic ocean in a voyage, the voyage was called The Middle Passage. The journey could last up to three months |
| George Washington (In French and Indian War) | a young Virginian who brought more soldiers to the war. He found the area under French control |
| English Bill of Rights | an act that lessened the power of the English monarch. While at the same time, Parliament gained control. This event happened in 1689 |
| Mercantilism | a system that created and maintained wealth through trade that was careful and controlled. Exports are greater than imports |
| Town Meetings | the center of politics in New England. They talked about local issues in the government and decided how to fix them |

| Jonathan Edwards | the most important leader in the Great Awakening.His sermons told sinners to seek forgiveness for their sins or face punishment |
| Enlightenment | a movement that took place in the 1700s. It spread the idea that logic could improve society. They also formed ideas about how the government should work |
| John Locke and social contract | a contract that says that people give up individual freedoms to the government. In exchange for security and protection of rights |
