| GRAVITY | An invisible force that pulls 2 objects toward each other. |
| What TWO things is gravity affected by? | Mass and Distance |
| MASS | The amount of matter in an object. The more mass an object has the more gravitational pull it has |
| DISTANCE | How far apart objects are. As distance between two objects INCREASES, their gravitational pull DECREASES and vice versa |
| Who is SIR ISAAC NEWTON? | Known for theory of gravity, author and inventor, identifying the laws of motion, invented calculus; Invented reflected telescope |
| ROTATION | The spin of a body (Earth) on its axis |
| What causes ROTATION? | A leftover motion from the formation of a solar system |
| How long does it take Earth to ROTATE? | 24 hours |
| AXIS | An imaginary line around which the Earth rotates |
| REVOLUTION | The motion of a body that travels around another body |
| What causes REVOLUTION? | The earth tries to pull away from the sun as the sun tries to pull earth into it. Our orbit is the balance between the two |
| How much time does it take for the Earth to revolve around the sun? | About 365 days |
| ORBIT | The path that a body follows as it travels around another body in space |
| APHELION | The point at which a planet or comet is farthest from the sun. Called apagee for our moon |
| PERIHELION | A point at which a planet or comet is closest to the sun. Called Perigee for our moon |
| If it begins with an A... | Its FAR away |
| If it begins with a P.... | It's close to me |
| SUMMER | The sun reaches its highest latitude (Tropic of Cancer) on or about June 2nd |
| WINTER | The sun reaches its lowest latitude (Tropic of Capricorn) on or about December 21 |
| AUTUMN | The sun reaches the equator and moves south into the southern hemisphere on or about September 22 |
| SPRING | The sun reaches the equator and moves northward into the northern hemisphere on or about March 20 |
| The 4 SEASONS are... | Summer, Winter, Autumn, Spring |
