Frontal Lobe of Cortex Makes decisions, solves problems, etc.
Pituitary Gland Influences growth, metabolism, maturation.
Temporal Lobe of Cortex Processes auditory information, supports long-term memory, and helps comprehend spoken words.
Pons Regulates sleep cycles.
Medulla Oblongata Controls respiration, heart rate, blood pressure, and other bodily functions.
Parietal Lobe of Cortex Processes bodily sensations and spatial relationships.
Facilitates communication between the two brain hemispheres.
Occipital Lobe of Cortex Contains the brain's visual center (located in the posterior cerebral hemisphere).
Cerebellum (mini-brain) Coordinates complex voluntary muscle movements.
Spinal Cord Plays a role in body reflexes; essential for the limbic system to function.
Amygdala (Limbic System) Monitors environment for threats; produces fear, anger, and relief after fear.
Hypothalamus (Limbic System) Regulates eating, drinking, sexual behavior; involved in stress response.
Septum (Limbic System) Inhibits sexual and aggressive behaviors.
Hippocampus Encodes new memories.
