TermDefinition
Force The push or pull on an object with mass causes it to change its velocity
Netforce the vector sum of all forces acting on an object, representing the overall force that determines an object's motion or acceleration
reference point a fixed location or position used as a basis for measuring or comparing the locations of other objects or positions
static friction the force that prevents two non-moving surfaces in contact from starting to slide relative to each other
rolling friction the resistive force that opposes the motion of a ball, wheel, or other round object as it rolls across a surface
sliding friction a resistive force that opposes the motion of one solid surface sliding across another
drag a resistive force that opposes the motion of an object through a fluid (a gas or liquid)
gravitational force the fundamental attractive force between any two objects that possess mass or energy
Electrical force the attraction or repulsion between two charged objects
magnetic force an invisible, non-contact force of attraction or repulsion that acts between magnetic materials or moving electric charges due to their motion in a magnetic field
balanced force occur when all the individual forces acting on an object are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction, resulting in a net force of zero.
unbalanced force a net force acting on an object that is not zero, meaning the forces are unequal in magnitude and don't cancel each other out.
contact force a type of force that arises when two objects physically touch or come into direct contact with each other, requiring physical interaction to exert its effect
non contact force a force that acts on an object without requiring any physical contact between the two interacting bodies; it acts at a distance.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
