TermDefinition
Apprenticeship A program where you learn a trade or skill by working with an expert while also taking some related classes.
Career Portfolio A collection of documents showcasing your skills, achievements, and experiences.
Certificate An official document proving you completed a specific course or training.
Credit A unit that measures educational progress or completion of coursework.
Degree A title awarded by a college or university after completing a program of study.
Diploma A document showing that a student has completed high school or a specific course.
Education and training requirments The schooling and preparation needed for a job.
Elective A class you choose to take that isn’t part of the required curriculum.
Extended learning Learning beyond the classroom, like online courses or workshops.
Financial Aid Money to help pay for education, such as grants, loans, or scholarships.
GED certificate A credential that shows you have high school-level academic skills.
Global economy The interconnected economies of countries worldwide.
Graduation requirments The courses and credits needed to complete a degree or diploma.
Grant Free money given for education, usually based on need.
Internship A short-term work experience, often unpaid, to learn about a career field.
Job qualification The skills, experience, or education needed to get a job.
Job shadowing Observing someone at work to learn about their job and duties.
License Legal permission to work in certain jobs after meeting requirements.
Mentoring Guidance provided by a more experienced person to support learning and growth.
On the job training Learning how to do a job while actually doing it.
Opportunity cost What you give up when you choose one option over another.
Outsourcing Hiring others outside a company or country to do certain tasks or services.
Plan A step-by-step guide to reach a goal.
Prerequisite A course or requirement you must complete before taking another.
Scholarship Free money awarded for education, usually based on achievement or merit.
Self-employment/Entrepreneurship Working for yourself by starting or running a business.
Tuition The cost of attending school or college.
Work-study program/learning A program that lets students work part-time to help pay for school while gaining experience.
