TermDefinition
Political Culture The set of attitudes, beliefs, and sentiments that give order and meaning across a society.
Political Socialization The process by which individuals acquire their political beliefs and values
Political Ideology A cohesive set of beliefs about politics, public policy, and the role of government.
Generational Effects the influence of major historical events on a specific generation that shape ideology
Life-Cycle Effects individuals' political views may change as they age, marry, have children, or retire.
Public Opinion The distribution of individual preferences or evaluations of a given issue, candidate, or institution within a specific population.
Public Opinion Polling The use of surveys to gauge the public’s views on various topics, candidates, or policies.
Tracking Polls A type of poll that is repeated periodically with the same group of people to measure changes in their opinions or behaviors over time.
Entrance Polls Surveys conducted with voters as they arrive at polling stations, asking them how they intend to vote; provide early indications of election outcomes before the votes are counted.
Exit Polls Surveys conducted immediately after voters leave polling stations, asking them how they voted; used to predict election outcomes and analyze voter demographics and behavior.
Polling Techniques The methods used to conduct polls, including sampling, question wording, and data analysis.
Sampling Error The margin of error in a poll’s results, reflecting the extent to which the sample may differ from the overall population.
