| Term | Definition |

| Public Enterprises | State owned- provide essential services rather than make profit, e.g: ESP Ireland, Rte, TEAGASC, not commercial business. |
| Private Enterprises | Owned by individuals or shareholders, AIM to make profit, from small businesses to Multinationals, e.g Supermacs |
| Not-for-Profits | Focus on social/cultural/ charitable goals, surplus income is re-invested, E.g GAA, Dublin Simon. |
| Sole trader | Business ran and owned by one person, must register with revenue commissioners as self-employed, Unlimited liability, limited equity capital. |
| Partnership | 2-20 owners, unlimited liability, They dont have to publish accounts, decisions shared with partners, E.g Law firm. |
| Private limited Company |
