| Yellow Bone Marrow | Stores fat, found in the medullary cavity |
| Periosteum | Outer covering of the bone |
| Articular Cartilage | Smooth tissue on joint surfaces |
| spongy bone | Light, porous bone found at the ends |
| trabeculae | The network of beams inside spongy bone |
| red bone marrow | Makes blood cells; found in spongy bone |
| compact bone | Dense, strong outer layer of bone |
| osteon | The basic unit of compact bone |
| haversian canal | Central canal with blood vessels and nerves |
| osteocyte | Mature bone cell |
| osteoblast | Bone-building cell |
| osteoclast | Bone-breaking cell |
| canaliculi | Tiny channels connecting bone cells |
| lamellae | Rings of bone tissue around the canal |
| endosteum | Thin lining inside the bone |
| lacuna | Small space where an osteocyte sits |
| blood vessels | Bring nutrients and oxygen |
| arteroiles | Small arteries (carry blood to bone) |
| venules | Small veins (carry blood away from bone) |
