osteon The basic unit of compact bone
haversian canal Central canal with blood vessels and nerves
osteocyte Mature bone cell
osteoblast Bone-building cell
osteoclast Bone-breaking cell
canaliculi Tiny channels connecting bone cells
lamellae Rings of bone tissue around the canal
endosteum Thin lining inside the bone
lacuna Small space where an osteocyte sits
blood vessels Bring nutrients and oxygen
arteroiles Small arteries (carry blood to bone)
venules Small veins (carry blood away from bone)
