10 Complexes named after Historical, Mythological, and Fictional Characters

Oedipus Complex King of Thebes who killed his father, Lauis, and married his mother, Jocasta, bringing disaster A male child's subconscious desire to have the complete and exclusive attention of the mother while resenting his father.
Madonna Complex In Freudian psychology, this complex is developed in male children who are raised by cold and distant mothers. In response to this, when they grow up, they tend to court women possessing the same qualities as their mothers.
Lear Complex From a Shakespeare tragedy, this complex describes theĀ father's unhealthy fixation on his daughter. King Lear descends into madness after foolishly dividing his estate between two of his three daughters based on their flattery. Disaster follows.
Jocasta Complex Mother's unhealthy fixation of her sons. Same as Lear Complex but with sons.
Cassandra Complex. Mythical prophetess from Troy whose prophecies of doom are believed by no one--a curse given by Apollo when she jilted him. It describes people to disbelieve predictions of imminent doom or a crisis that would ultimately come true.
Napoleon Complex Named after Emperor Napoleon, a brilliant militarist. Said to be an inferiority complex often appearing in men who are short in stature. To compensate they attempt to be high achievers to gain greater sense of worth.
