| benchmark | a marked physical point with presicely know elavation that severs as a permanent reference for surveying and mapping |
| hachure lines | short thick and close together lines on a map that indicate the direction and steepness of a slope |
| elavation | the height of a point on earths surface relative to a reference point |
| relief | variations of height on a map |
| profile | a cross sectional view that changes in elevation |
| topography | the detailed representation of a maps physical features |
| countor lines | the lines that represent the elevation on a map |
| contour map | a map with lines that represent the elevation changes on a map |
