What's an inference? Adding what you already know, to what an author has told you.
Tell me about two types of characterization. DIRECT Characterization The author TELLS us what a character is like. INDIRECT CHARACTERIZATION The author SHOWS us what a character is like. We make inferences.
Tell me what clues to watch for to get to know a character. S.T.E.A.L. | Speech, What does the character say? Thoughts, What is revealed through the characters thoughts and feelings. Effect on others, How does the character interact with others? Actions, What does the character do? Looks, How do they look?
What does “setting” mean? In a story, setting refers to the when and where the narrative takes place, encompassing physical location, time period, climate, culture, and social conditions
Tell me about annotations. Highlighting text in a story that answers and adds questions.
What is plot? The organized, causal sequence of events that makes up a story, revolving around a central conflict and providing a narrative's structure from beginning to end.
What key words are commonly used in CREEEC? Claim: Reason: Because Evidence: In the text, the author states, the text says, for example Explanation: This shows, this proves, this reveals, as a result, Conclusion: In Conclusion, finally, overall, therefore
What's dialogue? A conversation where characters exchange spoken words, like when Sarah asks, "Mom, can I go to the park?" and her mother replies, "Yes, but be home by dinner".
What is a genre? Fiction: fantasy, folklore, historical, mystery, realistic fiction Non-Fiction: Biography, autobiography, narrative, periodicals, reference
Informational text? Provides factual info, includes Evidence to support ideas, includes magazine and new articles and other formats, often contains text features such as headings, photographs & captions
Integrity: A character trait of someone who does the right thing, even when no one is watching.
Whats the climax of the short story mirror image by Lena Coakley. The moment Alice meets Mr. Jarred and he confirms that she is not his daughter, Gail, solidifying her own new identity after a life-altering brain transplant.
What's the baselines for writing a professional email/Gmail? [Clear and simple subject line describing the need] Dear Recipient's Name, clearly state your need, explain why you are contacting this specific person or department, provide brief, concise context or reasoning, thank them for their time, and Your Name

What is NOT a way to correct a run-on sentence? Add only a comma between the two complete ideas.
In "Mirror Image," how does Alice's meeting with Mr. Jared resolve the custody battle between the two families? It fixes the custody battle because Mr. Jared doesn't see Gail in Alice.
