ND: Lightning

TermDefinition
Troposphere The lowest layer of Earth's atmosphere where weather occurs
Levee An embankment that prevents a river from over flowing
Wildfire A large fire that spreads quickly over a natural area
Thunder A booming or crashing noise caused by air expanding along a bolt of lightning
Hail Precipitation of ice pellets when there are strong rising air currents
Thunderstorm A storm that produces lightning and thunder and often heavy rains and strong winds
Evaporation change of substance from liquid to gas
Static Electricity the accumulation of excess electrical charge of an object
Downdraft a rapidly moving current of cool air that flows downward in a thunderstorm
Flood Plain an area along a river that forms sediment deposited when a river overflows
Flash Flooding a flood that happens in a short time caused by intense and heavy rain
Cold Front forms when cold air moves under warm air (less dense) and produces storms
Lightning a sudden spark or energy caused when electrical charges jump between clouds or between clouds and the ground
Condensing a change from gas to liquid
Spider Lightning lightning that crawls across the sky
