Crust is a thin layer of relatively cool rock that forms Earth's outer skin both on land and in the ocean
mantle below the crust ; its a very hot but mostly solid rock
core Earth's outer core is made of molten metals such as iron and nickel ; the layer of earth below the mantle
tectonic plates one of the rigid layers of the lithosphere
landforms features such as mountains , islands , and continents formed by the collisions and separations of tectonic plates
deposition the movement and accumulation of erosion
evaporation the conversion of a substance from liquid to gas
transpiration the release of water vapor by plants through their leaves
precipitation water returns from the atmosphere to Earth's surface such as rain or snow
condensation a change in state form from a gas to liquid
aquifers aquifers are layers of rock and soil that hold ground water
groundwater fresh water found from underground
law of conservation of matter it explains why the amount of matter in the enviroment stays the same as it flows through matter cycles , such as the water cycle
nutrients are matter that organisms require for their life process
biochemicals cycle - nutrients cycle nutrients circulate endlessly throughout the enviroment in complex cycles
primary producers are organisms including plants and algae that produce ther own food
photosynthesis producers pull carbon dioxide out of their environment and combine it with water in the presence of sunlight
consumers are organisms mainly animals , that must eat other organisms to obtain nutrients
decomposers are organisms such as bacteria and fungi that break down wastes and dead organisms
cellular respiration is the process by which organisms use oxygen to release the chemical energy of sugars and C02
eutrophication the addition of phosphorus to bodies of water can lead to an overgrowth of producers
Nitrogen fixation is the conversation of nitrogen gas into ammonia
