TermDefinition
Base Words Refers to individual words in the English language
Root Words Goes back to Latin and Greek languages
Affix Small word particles, usually only a few letters, added to a root word to change its meaning or grammatical properties.
Prefix Affixes that come at the beginning of a word, before a root word.
Suffix Affixes that come at the end of a word, after the root word
Respect Acting in a way that shows admiration or care about other people and their belongings.
Courage The act of being brave or bold in a scary situation
Genre A category or a way of organizing different pieces of literature by the style or what the book is about.
Delusion Something that distracts you or plays tricks on your mind
Fluent Something that is constant
Theory Somebodies guess on what is about to happen
Inference An educated guess
Unsettling Something that makes you upset or that disturbs you
Scorn Something that you dislike
Bullying The act of constantly hurting someone or being rude to someone.
Turmoil Being confused or uncertain of a situation
Refugee Someone who leaves or is forced out of their country
Deprived Someone or something who is lacking the materials or resources they need to survive
Tenant Someone who rents land or property from a landlord
Plot The main events of a movie, show, or a book.
Improvisation Something that you create or perform
Surplus An amount of food or other products left over.
Murmured To speak in a low or quiet voice
Drama 1-A play in the theater. 2-Over Exaggerating
Disrupt To interrupt something
Theme The what the story is about
Dialogue The line where someone speaks in a story.
Revolting Something that is causing someone else disgust
Compassion Showing kindness or love toward someone.
Persuasion The act of trying to get others to agree with your opinion
Alliteration The process of repeating the same letters or sounds.
Eloquent Someone who is fluent in writing or speaking
