Water Cycle
Terms
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| sublimation | the process of solid water changing directly to water vapor without first becoming a liquid. |
| transpiration | the release of water vapor into the air by plants. |
| evaporation | the process in which liquid water gains enough energy to escape the liquid's surface and form water vapor. |
| condensation | The change from gas state to liquid state |
| precipitation | any form of water that falls to Earth from clouds |
| deposition | the process of water vapor changing state directly from gas to a solid |
| runoff | water that flows downhill across Earth's surface into wetlands, rivers, or lakes |
| Radiant energy | Energy from the sun reaches that reaches Earth as visible light and ultraviolet light and infrared (heat) radiation. |
| Infiltration | Water seeping into the ground |
| Gravity | the force pulling objects down; in the water cycle impacts runoff and precipitation |
| Groundwater | Water that collects in cracks and pores in underground soil and rock layers. |
| Surface water | all the water found on Earth's surface |
| Water Cycle | The continual movement of water among Earth's atmosphere, oceans, and land surface through evaporation, condensation, and precipitation |
| The Sun & Gravity | the two driving forces behind the water cycle |
