| Base Words | Refer to individual words in the English language |
| Root words | Go back to Latin and Greek languages |
| Affixes | Affixes are small word particles, usually only a few letters, added to a root word to change its meaning or grammatical properties |
| Suffixes | Suffixes are affixes that come at the end of a word, after the root word |
| Prefixes | Prefixes are affixes that come at the beginning of a word, before a root word. Sometimes they are added to a word to change its meaning, such as legal and illegal |
| Courage | To be strong in something you might fear. |
| Genre | A specific category of music or literature |
| delusion | Crazy idea of sometimes not being true words |
| fluent | Able to speak or right very easily |
| theory | A set of ideas that are combined to make a prediction |
| inference | An idea that is drawn from reasoning |
| unsettling | Something that is not setting or disturbing |
| scorn | Disrespect for something |
| eloquent | Persuasive in writing or speaking |
| deprived | Suffering severing and damaging lack of cultural benefits |
| tenant | A person who occupies land rented from a landlord |
| plot | A sequence of events, created from cause and effect. |
| improvisation | The activity of doing something before hand |
| surplus | An amount of something that is extra than what is needed |
| murmured | Say something in a soft, low, indistinct voice |
| Drama | A play for theater, or television |
| disrupt | To talk over someone or be disrespectful |
| theme | An underlying message that the author is trying to tell about a topic |
| Dialogue | Spoken, written , conversation between two or more people |
| revolting | Extremely disgusting, and a strong repulsion against something |
| compassion | The emotion of the author’s combining empathy |
| persuasion | Something that gets you to do something that you might be unsure about |
| alliteration | The same sound at the beginning of every word |
| adversity | A state of unfavorable circumstances |
| moody | A person who changes their mood a lot |
| absorb | Take in soak up |
| memoir | Written perspective of an author, about an important part of life |
| tone | The attitude, feeling, mood, style, and manner in writing. |
| insight | To gain a deep understanding of someone or something. |
