acoustics fundamentals

| Acoustics | The properties or qualities of a room, building, or other place in transmitting sound |
| what is sound - physical | pressure waves moving through a medium |
| what is sound - psychological | physical feelings and psychological sensations experienced as a result of sound waves vibrating the body and eardrum of living being and being processed by auditory cortex of brain |
| sound waves | a disturbance created by a vibrating source that moves through a medium |
| wavelength | the distance a wave travels in the time it takes to complete one cycle |
| frequency | the number of cycles per second |
| Amplitude | the physical distance the particles travel from the original position, measured in M distance of the crests and troughs of a sound wave from the baseline |
| Loudness | a mesure of the psychological of changes in amplitude, measured in decibels dB |
| Phase | the relationship and interaction between two signals |
| reflections | The phenomenon of a sound wave bouncing off a surface, rather than being absorbed or transmitted |
| reverberations | The continuation and persistence of a sound in a space after the original sound source has stopped caused by multiple sound reflections off surfaces like walls floors and ceilings |
