Sci 4.1 key concepts

QuestionAnswer
What is always happening within a population? Organisms are always being born and dying.
Systems can be stable as things are being added and removed, but if they are not equal, what will happen? The system will change.
What will happen to a system if the number of births and deaths in a given time are equal? The population size will be stable.
If there are more births than deaths in a given time, will the size of the population increase or decrease? The population size will increase.
If there are more deaths than births in a given time, will the size of the population increase or decrease? The population size will decrease.
In order to reproduce, what do organisms need to do? They need to release energy from energy storage molecules.
How do organisms in consumer populations get energy storage molecules? They get energy from eating organisms in resource populations.
Can two populations compete for the same resource population? Yes
If two populations compete for the same resource population and a change occurs in one of the populations, what can be affected? The size of the other populations can be affected.
What can be affected by any population that is connected to it in a food web? The size of the population can be affected.
