Parts of the cell

QuestionAnswer
Cell membrane Surrounds the cell and gives it structure. It controls what enters and leaves the cell
Cytoplasm The fluid inside of a cell that is made of water, salt and other molecules
Chloroplast
Contain the green pigment chlorophyil and perform photosynthesis found mainly in plants or autotrophic organisms
Cell wall Protects and supports plant cells. It is made of a string stiff material called cellulose
Mitochondria The process of cellular respiration occurs here. In this process food (glucose) is broken down into energy in the from of ATP
Nucleus The control center of the cell that contains chromosomes (DNA) a genetic code that tells other parts of the cell what to do
Centrioles Play a role in cell division (mitosis) in animal cells
Chromosomes Found inside the nucleus made up of DNA
Cell The basic unit of structure and function of living things
Organelle The specialized structure in the cytoplasm of cells that carry out specialized functions
Ribosomes Function is to make protein
Eukaryote Cells that have a nucleus
Prokaryote Cells that do not have a nucleus
