Bowel obstruction interventions NG decompression, IV fluids, bowel rest, surgery if severe
Diverticulitis is Small pouches in the colon become inflamed
Ulcerative colitis causes Peaks 15-30, unknown cause, probably immune
Ulcerative colitis tx Bowel rest, TPN, 5 aminosalyicylic acid (takes effect in 2-4 wks)
Ulcerative colitis Dx Colonoscopy, CT, barium enema
Crohns disease cause and complications cause unknown, can cause fistula, perforations, and obstruction
Ostomy care Ensure stoma is red, pink, and moist, and empty pouch when it is 1/3 full.
Colostomy prep Bowel prep, NPO.
IBS labs are usualy normal. Eat less sugar too
